On the weekend of the 8th & 9th of June the Aloha Golf Club hosted the XVII Butterfly Children’s Golf and Gala event, along with special guests Noemi Jimenez and Danny Hartley. The €41.800 raised will go towards supporting and caring for children with this rare and painful condition. Now in its 17th year this special event contributes to ensuring that people with the disease continue to receive the best possible medical attention and access to treatments.
Lovers of the game enjoyed a sporting day of golf with the added competition of playing with real professionals: they were joined by golfing pros Noemi Jimenez and Danny Hartley. More than 200 players took part in the competition and those at the forefront of the event were awarded with prizes generously contributed by local businesses.
The gala event attendees were treated to dancing and music from Ricky Lavazza, Pete Nabarro and the Memphis Trio. The fundraising for the evening event continued with a raffle and an auction with prizes kindly donated by businesses and individuals committed to showing their support.
The emotive speech given by Alicia, sister to a boy with EB, served to underline the difficulties of living with the disease and the importance of the support delivered by DEBRA, the Butterfly Children’s Charity, both to the patient and the family unit that surrounds them.
